Did you know that Play-Doh began as a product to clean soot from walls?
As the 1950’s approached, fewer people use coal to heat their homes, therefore the need for this cleaner declined. With Play-Dough sales down, it was then that they discovered a new use for the cleaner. Teachers needed a better modeling clay to work with, and as it turns out, Play-Dough was just what the teacher ordered. The teachers and schools loved the off-white pliable modeling compound. They added color and re-branded it as Play-Doh and the rest is history!
